Total revenue over the trailing twelve months.
Revenue minus all costs, before paying yourself.
Your salary plus personal or one-time expenses (add-backs).

The low and high values use published multiples. Where you land between them depends on the four answers on the left, each weighted equally. That weighting is our simplification, not a market statistic.

What is a business valuation calculator?
A business valuation calculator estimates what a buyer would pay for your business today. For small online businesses the standard method is simple: annual profit times a multiple. The multiple comes from what similar businesses actually sold for, so it changes by business model and over time.
This calculator uses the profit multiples Flippa published for deals closed in H1 2026, checked against Acquire.com and Empire Flippers data. You get a low and high value for your model, plus a point estimate placed inside that range by four things buyers look at: revenue trend, age, owner hours and recurring revenue. The range comes from the sources below. The way we place you inside it is our own simplification, not a market statistic.
Business valuation or startup valuation: which one do you need?
Use this calculator if your business makes a profit and you want to know what it would sell for. Buyers of small SaaS, apps, stores and newsletters pay for cash flow, so profit is the number that matters.
If you are raising money, or you are still pre-revenue, the profit multiple says little. Investors price the upside, not current earnings. In that case use the Startup Valuation Calculator, which covers pre-money valuation with methods like Berkus, Scorecard and the VC method. For a venture-scale company planning an acquisition by a strategic buyer or a fund, the Startup Exit Calculator works from ARR, growth and retention instead.
Online business valuation multiples in 2026
These are the multiples behind the calculator. They are multiples of annual profit (SDE), not revenue. The low end of each range in the calculator is the average multiple, the high end is the top quartile.

Larger and better documented businesses sell higher. Empire Flippers reports average annual listing multiples of 2.3x for typical businesses, 2.6x for premium ones and 3.4x for seven-figure premium businesses (2026 State of the Industry Report). FE International cites about 4x to 6x earnings for SaaS and ecommerce businesses with strong metrics.
How to Value Your Online Business
1. Pick your business model
Choose SaaS, mobile app, ecommerce, content site, newsletter, YouTube channel or service business. The model sets the multiple range, because buyers pay very different prices for each one.
2. Enter your annual profit and add-backs
Use trailing twelve-month (TTM) net profit, then add back what you pay yourself and any one-off or personal costs. The calculator adds them up into SDE, the profit figure buyers of small businesses use.
3. Describe the business
Tell the calculator whether revenue is growing, flat or declining, how old the business is, how many hours a week you put in and how much revenue is recurring. These place you closer to the average or to the top quartile.
4. Read your range
You get a low, a high and a point estimate. For SaaS you also get a revenue-based cross-check. Use it as a starting point for talks with buyers or a broker, not as a formal appraisal.
Key Business Valuation Terms
- Seller's Discretionary Earnings (SDE)
- Net profit plus the owner's salary and personal or one-off expenses. It is the standard earnings figure for owner-operated businesses, typically those valued at $10 million or less.
- Profit multiple
- The number buyers multiply your annual profit (SDE) by to set a price. A business with $100,000 SDE at a 3x multiple is valued at $300,000.
- Revenue multiple
- Price divided by annual revenue. It is used mostly for SaaS, where buyers sometimes pay for recurring revenue even when profit is small or reinvested.
- Top-quartile multiple
- The multiple reached by the best 25% of deals in a category. Businesses get there with clean books, steady growth, low owner involvement and diversified traffic.
- Add-backs
- Costs that a new owner would not have: your own salary, personal expenses paid by the business, one-time legal or development bills. Buyers will ask for proof of each one.
- Trailing twelve months (TTM)
- The last 12 full months of results. Buyers value most online businesses on TTM profit, not on projections.
- EBITDA
- Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization. Larger businesses with a management team are priced on EBITDA instead of SDE, because owner pay is a real ongoing cost.
How to Increase What Your Business Sells For
- 1.Cut your own hours before you sell. Write down every process and hand off support and operations. A business that runs without you is easier to buy and moves closer to the top-quartile multiple.
- 2.Clean up 12 months of books. Separate personal and business costs, and keep proof for every add-back. Buyers discount what they cannot verify.
- 3.Grow recurring revenue. Subscriptions and retainers are worth more than one-off sales, because the next year of revenue is more predictable.
- 4.Reduce concentration risk. If one traffic source, one customer or one supplier drives most of the revenue, diversify before going to market.
- 5.Sell while revenue is growing. A flat or declining trend pushes you toward the average multiple or below it.
- 6.Show verified numbers. List your business on StartuPage with verified revenue so buyers can trust the figures from the first conversation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Most small online businesses sell for a multiple of their annual profit. Take your trailing twelve-month net profit, add back the owner pay and one-off costs (that gives you SDE), then multiply by the multiple buyers pay for your business model. On Flippa, average profit multiples in H1 2026 ranged from 1.43x for service businesses to 3.33x for marketplaces.
Small SaaS businesses usually sell for about 2.5x to 4x annual profit. Acquire.com reports a median profit multiple of 3.9x on confirmed SaaS deals in 2024 and 2025. On Flippa, SaaS sold for 2.47x profit on average in H1 2026, and 4.06x in the top quartile. Acquire.com also notes that small SaaS often trades at 1x to 3x annual revenue.
SDE (Seller's Discretionary Earnings) is net profit plus the owner's salary and personal or one-off expenses run through the business. It shows what a new owner-operator would actually earn. FE International notes SDE is used almost exclusively for businesses valued at $10 million or less, while larger companies are priced on EBITDA.
Buyers price in risk, and ecommerce carries more of it: inventory, suppliers, ad costs and platform rules. In Flippa H1 2026 data, ecommerce averaged 1.55x profit against 2.47x for SaaS. Strong stores still sell higher: FE International cites about 4x to 6x earnings for ecommerce businesses with solid fundamentals.
Profitable newsletters typically sell for about 2.5x to 3.75x annual profit, which is 30x to 45x monthly profit, according to Flippa. Engagement, niche, revenue mix (sponsors vs paid subscriptions) and how much the business depends on the founder move you up or down that range.
No. This calculator values a profitable online business you could sell today, using profit multiples from real marketplace deals. The Startup Valuation Calculator estimates pre-money valuation for fundraising, including pre-revenue startups, with methods like Berkus and the VC method.
